The Influence of TikTok on Gen Z
Being born in Generation Z automatically means that you are on TikTok and understand the influence it has on our society. I mean, I have TikTok and I'm right on the line between Millennial's and Generation Z. Whether you are on Alt TikTok, Straight TikTok, Plant TikTok, Indie TikTok, Liberal TikTok - yes, you can be on a specific side of TikTok - you understand the influence that this platform has on our generation. Any movement or conspiracy can be sparked within minutes.
Different Sides of TikTok Explained
Older generations, mainly Boomers, are concerned and fearful of the power that TikTok has on us "crazy" Gen Z's. But we don't care, because we know we're going to take over the country - according to my TikTok feed. TikTok uses an algorithm to adjust the "For You Page (FYP)" based off of what you like and what you want to see - similarly to watching CNN versus Fox, you see what you want to see and hear what you want to hear and nothing else.

We all understand the ways that social media can impact our lives and change our perception about certain things. The biggest difference between TikTok and any other platform is how quickly news can spread, opinions can be exaggerated, and feelings can be emphasized. On my FYP, which is a combination of Liberal and Alt TikTok with a dash of Plant TikTok and Conspiracy TikTok, my political beliefs and opinions are continuously being fueled.
Gen Z drives TikTok and the extensive trends that are continuously going viral. With that being said, TkTok is fueling a superiority complex among Gen Z. I'm not saying that it's wrong, but TikTok is making those belonging to Gen Z feel like we are the change, we are the future and we can better this world that is descending into chaos.
TikTok has introduced an entirely new way that social media impacts communications. Whether it's about companies trying to reach Generation Z or movements trying to get the support of Generation Z, all the power falls in the hands of TikTok. It shows the true impact of technology and social media in the business and marketing world. With Generation Z about to take over the professional world, the social media takeover is officially happening.
Hey Lily! I think that what you said about TikTok fueling a superiority complex among Gen Z is super interesting and something that I hadn't thought about before, but it's totally true. Gen Z absolutely owns TikTok, and we've already seen the power that the generation holds when they control and organize through social media (like reserving a bunch of seats at Trump's rallys only to leave him speaking to a practically empty room). How do you think Gen Z interacts with other generations? Is it possible to be a millennial or even a boomer and use TikTok and actually enjoy it, or is it totally inaccessible?
ReplyDeleteHi Lily, I’m so appropriate to reading your post, after reading I know the TikTok feed. TikTok uses an algorithm to adjust the "For You Page (FYP)" based off of what you like and what you want to see - similarly to watching CNN versus Fox, you see what you want to see and hear what you want to hear and nothing else. And I though it’s why the TikTok’s popular. And I can know how TikTok popular in Generation Z.
ReplyDeleteHi Lilly,
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post on tik-tok. This blog is very informative for someone like me who doesn't know much about tik-tok.
Also, I personally don't like FYP algorithm. If I am not wrong, almost all social media and internet uses FYP. The internet is just feeding us the content and we can not top consuming it.
